This study investigates the design of a marine farm to optimize turbine placement while considering wake effects (turbine interactions) in the optimization model. The Toyapakeh Strait, Bali, Indonesia, serves as a potential location due to its strong tidal currents. Both ant colony optimization (ACO) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithms as optimization algorithms are implemented to approach the problem. Results show that the SA algorithm outperforms ACO in terms of objective function value (representing farm efficiency). The SA solution generates a less crowded turbine layout, potentially minimizing wake effects and maximizing power generation. This study highlights the effectiveness of optimization algorithms in designing efficient marine current farms. © 2025 by the author(s).
