Landslide hazard identification using Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation (SMCE) in Poncokusumo Subdistrict, Malang Regency

Abstract

Landslides are one of the hazards that often occur in Indonesia, so it requires good disaster management to minimize losses. One of them is in Poncokusumo District, Malang Regency. Terrestrial surveys for early identification of disaster management require a lot of time and money. So alternative solutions are needed for early identification of disasters. One of them is using a Geographic Information System. The main objective of this study is to map landslide hazards using a GIS (Geographic Information System) approach in Poncokusumo District. The method used in landslide hazard mapping uses a multivariate approach with SMCE (Spatial Multi-Criteria Evaluation) analysis. This method goes through several stages, namely: 1) pairwise, and 3) raster data calculation. The results of the study showed that Poncokusumo District has a high level of landslide hazard. The highest level of landslide hazard, 2) the creation of a bandage matrix, is located on steep slopes with agricultural land use. Agricultural plants with roots that are unable to withstand the rate of runoff water will worsen landslide conditions in slope areas. Therefore, the village government and local residents should plant plants that can prevent landslides such as vetiver, cempaka, aren, bamboo, mato, etc., in addition to making terracing on sloping land. 2025 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
