In the context of teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) in Indonesia, the teaching of writing is aimed to help learners (in schools, universities, and other institutions) learn how to convey meaning in a written form. This chapter aims to inspire teachers and researchers in applying the insights in teaching writing and to draw their attention in research and educational practice. It begins with the presentation of models of writing as a theoretical framework to understand the teaching of writing, how strategies in teaching writing have transformed into more independent processes of producing writing works, and how technology has been influential in the production of writing work. Then, it presents strategies in teaching writing based on the results of current research and the application of technological tools in this area. At the end of the chapter, conclusions are drawn and future directions in research and practices on the teaching of writing are outlined. © 2026 selection and editorial matter, Subhan Zein and Fuad Abdul Hamied; individual chapters, the contributors.
