Relay coordination is the proper sequence of operation of all relays in the event of a fault. The coordination time between the primary relay and the backup relay is referred to as the time coordination interval (CTI). CTI can be interpreted as the difference in operating time of the primary and secondary relays. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is a heuristic method developed based on the principles of genetics and the natural selection process of Darwin's Theory of Evolution. This algorithm is used to obtain the optimal coordination time value. Relay coordination is carried out based on the limitations derived from the CTI and CTI' values for critical fault locations. Based on the explanation above, a study was conducted to determine the performance of distance relay coordination and overcurrent relay (OCR) in the Sekarputih Substance to the Mojoagung Substance. This study presents a combination of distance relay coordination with OCR to have the shortest possible fault isolation time. Furthermore, the analysis is based on the IEEE C37.113-2015 standard, IEEE Guide for Protective Relay Applications on Transmission Lines, and the characteristics of the OCR relay are Normally Inverse (NI). Genetic algorithms are used to obtain the optimal values of the multiplier time setting (TMS), plug setting (PS), and second zone operating time (TZ2). The use of MATLAB software is intended to run genetic algorithms and for disturbance simulation and protection coordination using ETAP 19.0.1 software. © 2025 IEEE.
