Abstract

Landslides are one of the disasters that are increasing in incidence along with climate change. Hilly areas that have experienced a change in designation from forest to agricultural or residential have low soil resilience. High rainfall easily triggers landslides. Early warning is a preventative effort to avoid and reduce the impacts caused by disasters. Remote monitoring using the Internet of Things helps in the early detection of catastrophes. However, remote mountainous areas need more internet network infrastructure. LoRa technology connects sensor networks in blank spot areas with the internet network via cellular internet to form LoRAWAN. Using the Chirpstack platform, the system responds quickly to changes in the location of sensor nodes, which are signs of ground movement. The system uses two sensor nodes: three weather nodes and six ground nodes. Soil moisture as an indicator of soil saturation before moving can be detected accurately using capacitive or resistive sensors. Ground movements can be detected and identified quickly in the monitoring system within 0.17 seconds using vibration and displacement sensors. The novelty of this study lies in integrating the Chirpstack-based LoRaWAN platform, which allows for rapid, reliable, and energy-efficient landslide monitoring in remote regions.
