Type 2 DM is caused by insulin resistance, which is characterized by hyperglycemia and obesity. Obesity is caused by high-fat or high-sucrose diet, which lead fatty liver. Fatty liver will cause lipid metabolites to increase, causing liver mitochondrial dysfunction and insulin resistance. Hepatic mitochondrial dysfunction results in the releasing of liver enzymes into the bloodstream, resulting in increased SGPT and SGOT in the blood. This study aims to determine the effect of purple sweet potato (PSP) and black soybean tempeh (BST) extracts on the lipid profile and liver enzymes. Rats were made type 2 DM by feeding High Fat Diet (HFD), 10% sucrose and Multiple Low Doses injection of Streptozotocin (STZ) intraperitoneally. The study was conducted for 30 days with 5 treatment groups. At the end of treatment, rats were sacrificed and blood was taken from the heart and liver was collected. Blood was centrifuged to get blood serum. Lipid profile analysis, SGPT and SGOT were measured by spectrophotometric methods. One-way ANOVA analysis showed that PSP and BSB had a significant effect (p<0.05) on increasing HDL levels by 55 mg/dL in C2 and decreasing LDL levels by 6.7 mg/dL in C3, total cholesterol levels by 58.5 mg/dL in C3, and there was no significant decrease on triglyceride levels between treatments, SGPT levels by 31 U/L in C2 and SGOT levels by 151 U/L. © 2025 American Institute of Physics Inc..
