Abstract

Scientific literacy is essential for navigating the complex socioscientific issues that arise today. Technology has emerged as a powerful tool for fostering this literacy in students. This systematic review, conducted following PRISMA guidelines, aimed to explore how technology influences scientific literacy development within classroom settings and the challenges to its implementation. The results show that technology enhances scientific literacy through several mechanisms: It broadens access to integrated learning resources, facilitates virtual and interactive education, promotes online collaboration, enables visualization, encourages reflection, boosts motivation and engagement, supports self-directed learning, and allows practical application of knowledge. However, the challenges include standardizing technology, supervising students to maintain focus, overcoming accessibility disparities, ensuring teacher and student proficiency, providing a supportive learning environment, and surmounting technological limitations. © 2026, Grand Canyon University.
