Abstract

Critical thinking is an essential 21st-century skill and one of the main objectives of physics education. However, many students continue to encounter difficulties and misconceptions, particularly in learning sound and light waves. This study examines the implementation of the Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) model integrated with STEAM and supported by Digital Mind Mapping (DMM) to enhance students' critical thinking skills. The integration provides inquiry-based, interdisciplinary, and visually structured learning that fosters deeper reasoning, creativity, and systematic argumentation. A quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design was applied to class XI students. Critical thinking was assessed using standardized essay instruments that had been validated and shown to be reliable. The findings indicate that the ADI-STEAM- DMM model improved students' critical thinking across all assessed aspects, although some students continued to face challenges in advanced clarification as well as strategy and tactics. This study recommends the application of the ADI- STEAM-DMM model on other materials and cognitive domains in future research. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
