Creative thinking involves original and reflective problem-solving to generate numerous solutions through different approaches. It is typically characterized by three key indicators, fluency, flexibility, and originality. This descriptive qualitative research explores the creative thinking skills of students in solving open-ended PISA problems. In this study, the instrument used refers to PISA questions. The study involved three students from a public junior high school in East Java, Indonesia, who demonstrated high, medium, and low creative thinking abilities. The data were garnered using two supporting instruments, a test sheet on students' creative thinking skills to solve open-ended PISA problems and an interview guide. Data triangulation was conducted by comparing test results with interviews. The findings indicate that students with high creative thinking capability in both problems received a score of 2 for all three creative thinking indicators. However, students with medium creative thinking skills received a score of 2 only for problem 2 in terms of fluency and flexibility indicators, while students with low creative thinking ability received a score of 1 for all creative thinking indicators. © 2025 American Institute of Physics Inc..
