Increasing ecological knowledge among students can have an impact on their awareness and intention to protect their surroundings. Universities play a key role in shaping environmentally conscious students. Assigning students a project to create a video about "A Day in my life at Cakra Green Campus"aims to provide an understanding of the green campus program, involve students in campus environmental conservation, and enhance creativity in video production. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to decide the perceptions of new UM students about the video assignment "A Day in My Life at Cakra Green Campus"and to decide the influence of the video assignment on the eco-knowledge of new UM students. This study is an ex post facto study with a quantitative descriptive approach. 435 First year students at the State University of Malang (UM) who had completed the video assignment participated in this study using a questionnaire adapted based on the indicators of the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking. Data analysis used descriptive statistics with the aid of SPSS version 22 to describe the level of eco-knowledge among students. The results of the study show that UM first-year students have a particularly proficient level of eco-knowledge, at 72.2% after completing the video assignment. Additionally, the video assignment "A Day in My Life at Cakra Green Campus"had a 51.5% influence on students-eco-knowledge, which can serve as a basis for UM to evaluate and provide environmental education tailored to the characteristics of its students. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2025.
