Abstract

The lack of awareness among students regarding cultural heritage has led to the marginalization of local culture. Culture-based learning innovations are needed to improve the various types of cognitive abilities of students. This study aims to explore the concept of geometric transformation in the ethnomathematics of Ulap Doyo and Badong Tencep craft motifs. Ulap Doyo and Badong Tencep are crafts that originated in Tenggarong. This qualitative research was conducted using an ethnographic approach in Pokant Takaq, Tenggarong. Interviews and documentation were used for data collection. The subject of this research is the head of Ulap Doyo and Badong Tencep crafts production at Pokant Takaq. In contrast, the concept of geometric transformation found in Ulap Doyo and Badong Tencep crafts is the object of this research. The findings show that the concept of reflection is found in the Naga motif, Perahu motif with a black base and Perahu motif, and the concepts of translation, rotation, glide reflection and double reflection are found in the Perahu motif with a black base and Perahu motif. The results of this study can be used as a reference by teachers or other researchers who want to develop mathematical instruction media based on ethnomathematics to be applied in school learning. © 2025 American Institute of Physics Inc..
