SMP Laboratorium Universitas Negeri Malang, as a partner school of Universitas Negeri Malang, holds strong potential to serve as a model for sustainability education. Nevertheless, students and teachers still demonstrate limited understanding of key sustainability concepts, especially those related to SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production) and SDG 15 (life on land). To address this gap, this study implemented the Green Pioneer Program as an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) initiative. The program was conducted from February to July 2025 and consisted of three main activities: an ESD seminar, a rried out from February to July 2025 and consisted of three main activities: an ESD seminar, Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot-based organic waste management training, and responsible consumption practices. Data were collected using surveys, observations, student reflections, and stakeholder feedback, and were analyzed thematically, supplemented by an independent sample t-test. The findings indicate that the Green Pioneer Program was successfully implemented, providing students with meaningful ecological knowledge and practical skills in sustainable practices. The program received positive responses from school leaders, teachers, and students. Although the t-test revealed no statistically significant difference in sustainability awareness between male and female students, participants demonstrated a relatively high frequency of sustainability practices following the program. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2025.
