Abstract

Spatial ability is one of the main intelligence factors that is not only important for the development of mathematics and science but also a necessary factor for success in many professions. Meanwhile, numeracy ability is also one of the aspects that is a benchmark for the success of a nation. These two abilities need to be trained from an early age to students. In primary school, spatial and numeracy skills in the geometry domain are subjects that are difficult for students to understand. One of the reasons is that mathematics learning is carried out without paying attention to the characteristics and stages of students' cognitive development, so many students find it difficult to understand and implement the concepts that have been learned to solve problems. The stage of concrete operational cognitive has implications for the selection of appropriate teaching materials to help students in learning. This research aims to develop a teaching material product called an e-encyclopedia based on augmented reality operated by application on a smartphone with the ethnomathematical context of the Taneyan Lanjhang Traditional House which valid to improve student's spatial and numeracy skills for elementary school students. Taneyan Lanjhang was chosen as the cultural context in this research because one of the cultures that is widely found around Madurese. This can make it easier for elementary school’s students especially in Madura, to see concretely the parts in Taneyan Lanjhang around them and then associate with the materials in the mathematics lesson taught at their school. The research method used the ADDIE’s Model which stages are Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The results of product validity based on the assessment of teaching material experts reached 94% in the very valid criteria, the results of product validity reviewed in terms of material content reached a score of 96%, the criteria were very valid, and the results of product validity based on the assessment of learning design experts reached 90% in the very valid criteria, so the results of the study showed that the E-Encyclopedia based on the Augmented Reality product with the ethnomathematical context of the Taneyan Lanjhang Traditional House developed was valid to use. © 2025 American Institute of Physics Inc..
