The twenty-first century demands to emphasize the importance of students having chemical literacy ability. This is because chemistry is a scientific discipline that can explain phenomena or situations in everyday life. The objective of this study is to assess students' proficiency in chemical literacy in acid-base subjects using the ORDIEC strategy. The study was conducted in the 2022/2023 academic year involving 31 students in the Chemistry Education Study Program of Universitas Islam Negeri Mataram. This research method used a quantitative descriptive to analyze students' chemical literacy through essay tests. We implemented the ORDIEC strategy through six stages: Orientation, Review, Designing, Investigation, Evaluation and Conclusion. In summary, the findings indicated that the ORDIEC strategy successfully enhanced students' proficiency in acid-base themes related to chemical literacy. Thus, it was concluded that the ORDIEC strategy can be used as a starting point to apply chemical cases and deepen knowledge of chemistry. © 2025 Author(s).
