Students' Mathematical Literacy in Solving PISA-Like Problems Based on Personality Types

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mathematical literacy in solving PISA-like problems based on Keirsey types of personality. This study is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were 60 junior high school students who were then selected six 15-years old students consisting of three guardian personality students and three artisan personality students that were measured by Personality Classification Test (PCT). Those six students were given Mathematical Literacy Test (MLT) and task-based interviews. Furthermore, the data from both tests were analyzed based on mathematical literacy indicators according to PISA (formulate, employ, and interpret and evaluate) and obtained descriptions of students' mathematical literacy. The results of this study showed that there are different descriptions of mathematical literacy between students with guardian personality type and students with artisan personality type. Students with guardian personality types tend to present the solution of problem in a comprehensive and structured procedure. While students with artisan personality types tend to be more flexible in problem solving. The result of this study can be used as a guideline in the future study regarding to students' mathematical literacy based on personality types. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
