The growing national economic life that is the subject of conversation in various mass media print, non-print and electronic, do not rule out an impact in the realm of economic life in these areas throughout Indonesia. There was the possibility also have an impact on the economic life of the housewife in managing the family economy. This study aims to determine how the realities of the economic life of a housewife in Malay Jambi. This study used a qualitative approach, which reveals the economic life of housewives in Jambi Malays more natural, descriptive and inductive. The informants were Malay housewives in Jambi. The results showed that: (1) A housewife in Malay Jambi over the times shifting is usually customary just sit at home and duty to take care of family members and educate their children, now they can have an activity in the public sphere. They have a heavier workload than the task at home they also have a responsibility in the public sphere. They also contribute to help the head of the family to sustain their economic life. (2) In carrying out their economic life without violating the customs and culture of Malay Jambi, housewife whose only duty in the domestic realm they do farming and growing fish under their stilt houses. They use the land around their homes to sustain their daily lives. (3) While the housewife who served in the public domain, before they plunge into the public domain must be authorized by the head of the family and also had to complete their tasks in the domestic sphere, only they can work in the public domain, so that they do not violate the rules of the customs and culture of the Malay Jambi "custom relies on religious law and religious law relies on holy text". © Serials Publications Pvt.Ltd.
