Abstract

Translational diffusion of water and cyclohexane as polar and nonpolar solvent species was studied with NMR diffusometry in a nanoporous silica glass (Vycor) as a function of the filling factor. A "two-phase fast-exchange model" for the effective diffusion coefficient was established and compared to experimental data. For diffusion in the vapor phase, contributions by ordinary ("Einstein") and Knudsen diffusion were distinguished.
