Abstract

Academic Schedule in the university is a complex problem which is hard to be solved, because it has many constraints considering lecturer activities, rooms and times. Therefore, the university needs a tool to determine an academic schedule. This paper aims to design an academic scheduling system which is developed using Genetic Algorithm (GA) to solve the academic schedule. GA has some advantages compared to others algorithms, that is, GA solves the problem using groups of optimum solutions therefore it's make the algorithm has less chance to be trapped in local optimum. In case of implementation in academic scheduling system, the analysis shows that GA can perform with the fitness value 0.952 in the training phase, and 0.927 in the testing phase. © 2016 IEEE.
