Abstract

Introduction and Aim: The diversity of crops in Indonesia is potential to be used as herbal medicine. Isolation of compounds in natural materials as a process of reducing multi-component compounds thus weakening the potential of natural materials. Yam Bean is a group of phytoestrogen plants as it contains daidzein compounds with chemical structures similar to estrogen hormone. This study is meant to test the profile and dynamics of daidzein compound of Yam Bean in the blood serum that can be utilized as a natural estrogen. Materials and Methods: The research used Experimental randomized pattern approach with treatment of giving Yam Bean juice and synthetic daidzein compound on 24 white rat of Sprague Dawley type at 5 months old for 24 days. Daidzein doses administered on the basis of daidzein levels at 1.5 ml of yam bean juice. Blood sampling was performed in 3 fractions (8th, 16th and 24th hours after treatment). Tests of daidzein levels were analyzed by HPLC method. The profile of the compound in the blood serum was analyzed by GC-MS method. Results: The results showed retention of yam bean daidzein in blood serum at 3 fractions respectively were 1459.747 pg, 2120.353 pg, and 2802.746 pg. Blood serum GC-MS test contains 58 compounds. Conclusion: Yam bean contains daidzein with estrogen-like chemical structure which can be used as a natural estrogen. © 2018 Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists. All Rights Reserved.
