Abstract

This research aim is exploring the empowerment of Furniture Industry in Pasuruan City in perspective of Capacity Building through the element of capital strengthening, human resources training, technology introduction and market access development. The population is all Furniture industries entrepreneur at Pasuruan-Indonesia. The samples are 7 informants. This research uses three techniques to collect data, namely: (1) in depth interview (in depth interview); (2) participant observation; and (3) study of documentation (study of documents). These are the three basic techniques in qualitative research agreed upon by most authors. The research result show the development of furniture industry in Pasuruan still faces various obstacles to affect the low competitiveness, namely the limited working capital, low human resources, and low mastery in science and technology. These need empowerment through capacity building that focuses on dimensions: (1) human resource development, (2) organization strengthening (capital), (3) introduction of technology and (4) development of market access. The effectiveness of Capacity Building Programme can be done through systems related to capital strengthening, human resources training, technology introduction and market access development through the Role of Intermediary Agencies. © IAEME Publication.
