School-based management is an approach which is employed in the management of school. Some previous studies showed that school-based management affected the quality of education, but in the other studies weren’t proved. That is related with the characteristic of the organization and environment, so that it is still to be a big question in Indonesia. The study was aimed at finding out the effect of the implementation of school-based management towards the quality of education. The study was conducted in East Java, by involving three regions as sample of the study, namely the district of Malang, Malang city, and the distric of Pasuruan with the amount of 62 schools by using cluster random sampling technique. The study used the questionnaire, interview, and documentation to collect the data, whereas descriptive statistics and regression were the technique to analyse the data. The result of the study showed that there was a significant positive effect of school-based management implementation to the quality of education. The dimensions which could be dominant indicators of the schoolbased management respectively were accountability, transparency, empowerment of community, empowerment of school resources, and school autonomy. © 2017 American Scientific Publishers.
